  • Starts 15 Jul
  • 500 British pounds
  • Old Moss Road

Course Information

Walking along a coastal footpath holds a certain kind of magic.  As the path rises and falls along the undulating coastline, we experience the sea from a place of closeness, of immediacy, yet from a contemplative stance.  Our gaze shift from our feet to the horizon - a place of steadiness and focus. Over the duration of the course, we will use the notion of the sea path as our starting point for an exploration of the landscape.  We will make drawings on the move, wandering along the coast, that capture both a sense of place as well as a sense of travel.  Following two days of walking, drawing, gathering and collating, we will return to the studio to asses our research and use this to engage in making a series of mixed media paintings that capture our experience. Over the duration of the course you will be introduced to a number of processes including mixed media drawing practices, printmaking, and mixed media painting with acrylic paint and mediums. We will explore the work of several Artists who have explored the notion of the sea and sea paths in their work including Wilhelmina Barns Graham and Barbara Rae, as well as a number of contemporary painters.
