Do you provide accommodation?

Accommodation is not provided. Self-catering and serviced accommodation is available in Ullapool village and the surrounding area.

Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate dogs in the studios or garden. Shaded parking areas can be found nearby to the studios if required.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes, we can accommodate dietary requirements. You will be contacted before your course start date with a request to inform us of any particular requirements. All of our lunches are vegetarian and we have gluten free alternatives of delicious cakes and biscuits (essential for any art course!)

Is there parking at the studio?

Yes, we have a small number of parking places. Information is sent out to all course particiapnts with parking details. We give priority to disabled or mobility impaired students. The school is within easy walking distance of the village centre and we encourage as many students as possible to walk or car share.

Our studios and courses are accessible for all. The courses are held between two studios - one for slide talks and lunch and the garage studio is the working area. There is a 50m walk between the studios. There are slightly varying but solid ground levels between the two studio locations with ramps up to the accessible doorways. We have a selection of chairs, stools and 'donkey' easels to assist those that have difficulty standing for long periods. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your requirements.

No, we don't arrange accommodation but we do provide a list of accommodation providers who offer their self-catering accommodation during the winter months. We give students as much help as possible to arrange suitable accommodation and put students that wish to share in touch.

Is there a qualification at the end?

Bridge House Art is an independent school that is not affiliated to any examination board, we therefore do not provide state qualifications. We do provide students with an in depth knowledge and firm grounding in fine art subjects and an understanding of professional and studio practice for students to develop further. That may be to study art at degree level or to practice art as a second career.

Can I get help with the fees?

Yes, we have an Assisted Place Scheme which supports students that otherwise would not be able to participate on the course. Applications are in writing to the School Director. Further information can be found here.

How many students are on the course?

There are 12 places on the portfolio course.

How do I apply?

Applications are accepted through out the year. We endeavour to hold the majority of interviews during the week of the students end of course exhibition. This gives prospective students the chance to meet those who have completed the course, to learn of their experience, to see the portfolios of work and to ask as many questions as possible.

This includes in the form of direct teaching to others.

Do the courses have a start/finish date?

No, the courses are designed to be started and finished at your own pace.

Is there any tutor feedback for the course?

Most of the courses have a private Facebook group linked to them. This allows the course tutor to feedback as you proceed on the course. It also allows for a group ethos to develop. All group members are encouraged to be supportive and constructive with comments.

Why can't I see the course information?

Please check your internet connection. Many areas are experiencing peak times of internet usage. This can affect your accessibility to the course information. Please try another internet provider i.e. if you are using Firefox, try Google Chrome. If you are using Safari, try another server etc. Please ensure your computer/ipad is up to date. Older equipment may not have the capacity to view the information.

Why can't I access the course on my phone?

Some smart phones will not read the course content if they do not have the spare capacity to do so. The courses are supported by video demonstrations, which sometimes are large files, so there may be a conflict in system operation. Please log in and access your course content on a desktop/laptop or ipad. The courses are best accessed via a desktop/laptop computer. They will work on iPad/iphone, but as they are large files they take a while to download, which often catches people out as they keep clicking because they think nothing is happening, therefore jamming their system! Also, internet service seems quite slow in most areas because of the increased usage, so please be patient :)

Can I save a shortcut to my course?

Go to the BHA home page and check if you're logged in. If you are not please log in before navigating to your course material. Once you are there you can bookmark it. For most browsers the way you do this is to click on the star that is found on the right side of the address bar - it may ask you to name the page. Now it should be bookmarked and the next time you open up your browser you should see the name of it come up directly below the address bar - you should be able to just click on this and it will take you straight there.

How do I join the private Facebook group for my course?

You will receive an invite to join the private Facebook group. You will not be able to find the group via a search as it is a closed, invite only group. If you do not receive your invite, please contact us and we will get one to you asap :)

What days can I get feedback?

The course tutors check their Faceboook groups Monday - Friday. If they are off screen for any reason they will notify you via the group page. We are trying to have screen free weekends, please be patient if you are waiting for a response.
