Course Information

As artists we approach our practice with a variety of processes that help us search out what it is that interests us. We then begin to make what we hope are final images. The liminal space between our ideas and what we hope to achieve changes and mutates in ways that are often surprising. Hopes are raised and dashed in this fertile time and often we squeeze the work into a shape that is in our comfort zone, rather than allowing the work to speak for itself and grow in an unknown direction. This course will use various methods of working that will allow flexible intentions to emerge and numerous possibilities to present themselves, in order to explore the development process. Starting with observational drawing and painting from the landscape around Ullapool, we will then use the studio as a base for exploring simple printmaking, collage and abstracted images, allowing them to emerge and grow. Imagination will be put into practice and a willingness to embrace flexible intentions and an unsure place is a must for this course. This course would suit students with some experience but the main requirement being curiosity and a willingness to play.
