Drawing Water

Tutor: Kittie Jones. Mixed Media Processes

  • Starts 24 Jun
  • 500 British pounds
  • Old Moss Road

Course Information

Ullapool is a village defined by water - built at the mouth of a sea loch and river, with a busy working harbour and high hills surrounding it makes for a perfect place to spend time exploring and drawing all things related to water. During the course, students will be encouraged to explore water in all its forms – as an elemental force, a shaper of the landscape, a provider of sustenance and a home to multiple life forms. A mixture of scales will be explored and time will be spent outdoors gathering information and realising finished mixed media drawings. Back in the studio students will be encouraged to explore how dry and wet materials can be used to define and challenge traditional descriptions of water. Fresh water and salt water will both be considered; large bodies of water sitting in the landscape and looking closely at surface patterns. Artists to look at will include Sam Clark, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Michael Andrews, David Hockney and Tania Kovats.
