I grew up enjoying the coast in the hilly, rural surroundings of the Llyn Peninsula in North West Wales and now live in a similar landscape in Wester Ross. I have lived in Scotland most of my life; I went to art college in Dundee and having completed my B A Fine Art Painting Degree at Duncan of Jordanstone I then lived in Edinburgh for twenty years working as an art and craft tutor before moving to the North West Highlands to live and paint the coastal landscape that inspires me.

Personal Statement

I feel a strong connection to coastal places. In Ullapool, I am struck by the close relationship that the village and harbour share, and it is this bond that I have been thinking about during my time painting here. My collection of paintings for this exhibition are images of the village viewed through the rigging of fishing boats in the harbour, and glimpses of the harbour seen through gaps between buildings and over rooftops in the village.
