Course Information

This course will allow you to travel light and explore on foot various spots to draw in mixed media in and around Ullapool. Working in sketchbooks and also on loose leaf sheets of paper out on location, exploring woodland paths, meandering river, village life and rugged coastline, collecting images and responses to these particular surroundings. Using inks, pencil and paints outside directly from location will allow you the freedom to walk and draw and explore areas in whatever weather conditions the season offers, just bring your willingness to look, respond and make marks. Each morning in the studio we will have a chance to look through some drawings and examples of artists' work to inspire us for the day ahead before collecting materials and heading out on location to draw the village and landscape. All materials will be provided but please wear appropriate clothing for sitting outside on location according to the weather. You may want to bring a sitting mat or similar if you have one. The walks will be designed to take students out into the landscape and villagescape to see new perspectives and develop a connection with the views you will work from. Although the main focus will be on drawing, an important aspect of this course will be walking and immersing ourselves in our subject matter, so you will need suitable footwear footwear for walking on uneven ground, including steps and rough tracks or footpaths and walking poles if you need additional support.
