Small Things
Tutor: Chloe Briggs. Drawing
Course Information
In this course Chloe will bring her approach to drawing nature from her tiny studio in Paris to the epic landscape of the highlands. You will walk, talk and gather subjects to draw - absorbing the landscape through noticing what is closest to you and within reach. Small details in the big scheme of things: a leaf vein, a bramble, sheep’s wool, or rock.… Through guided experimental exercises you will draw from your collections in the studio. Chloe will lead the group through the drawing process, proposing different journeys intended to open out possibilities for mark-making, mixing media and working between observation and imagination. Taking new-found courage from the close studies you make in the studio, you will venture into the landscape to explore how the small and vast are connected. You will work through drawing to deepen your own distinct relationship to nature. Regular 1:1 meetings with Chloe are offered as the week unfolds and everyone finds personal directions for their work. The aim for this week is to encourage new, unexpected ways into a drawing practice. To open out quiet, focussed ways of looking and recording in order to respond to the extraordinary place we find ourselves in.
