Course Information

This course will concentrate on the small things in nature that delight the eye and in turn allow a deeper connection to the landscape around. When in a dramatic landscape, our gaze is often drawn to the immensity and grandeur of the ‘view’ while the world under our feet is overlooked. On a walk, we often collect stones or found objects as mementos of place and these become talismans. This course aims to embrace the context between magnitude and miniature and will explore many ways of creating images by drawing from nature with the weather as part of the experience, and searching for our own small things from the land and shore. Once drawings have been gathered from the landscape along with your own personal collection of small things the quietness of the studio will become the haven to explore colour and paint, printmaking and collage to build a body of small but powerful mixed media work.
