Course Information
This new course will guide you through working sequentially with your artwork. You will move into the realms of illustration and animation, and throughout the week will take inspiration from text and words. We will explore how narratives ‘read’ in imagery, and look for alternative ways of visual storytelling, by changing perspective, dynamic, scale and storyteller. Participants are encouraged to bring some texts to inspire narrative ideas during the week, e.g. a poem, proverb, family saying or a folk tale, it could even be a shopping list! As your imagery/story develops you will be guided to make a book or sequential artwork inspired by texts - different forms will be offered, eg. zines, simple books, or a series of panels. We will explore combining text with image to create both one off pieces, plus consider reproducing multiples of your work using various media. Towards the end of the week we will take a leap and move your series of images into animation (no prior knowledge of animation experience is required!) and think about how to develop your ideas into sequences or series of images which unfold over time.
