Course Information

Working from the varied landscapes around Ullapool, students on this course will be encouraged to draw outdoors in different ways including gathering source material through sketching, as well as completing drawings on site. Time will also be spent back in the studio exploring ways of developing drawings away from the source by working at different scales, introducing collage and simple print techniques, exploring colour, and introducing ‘space’ into a drawing through concealing or revealing. Expressing space through exploring composition, mark-making and use of tone will be the main focus of this mixed-media drawing week. Materials to be explored will include charcoal, ink, pastel, collage and acrylic paint. We will look at the work of artists for whom drawing is an important part of their practice including Joan Eardley and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham.
