Ways of Looking -
Space, Abstraction and Freedom

(23rd - 27th June)

Tutor Kenneth Le Riche

Drawing and Painting.
In this workshop students will be encouraged to find different ways of looking at the landscape and how to realise this in drawing and painting. Initially the course will be instructed where students will learn various methods to represent what they see while creatively and closely observing Ullapool and its surrounding landscape. The distortion and subversion of colour, space, perspective, proportion, form and negative space will then be explored to equip the students with ‘tools’ to push their own boundaries and awaken a sense of play. Artists such as Cezanne, Braque, Picasso, de Stael, Hockney and Thiebaud will be looked at for guidance. Finally the emphasis will be on students developing a visual language of their own in two dimensions to make works that are strong colourful statements in response to the evocative surroundings.
Each day will start with a brief slide lecture and end with a group crit. Suitable for complete beginners and experienced alike.

Course fee : £230. (Deposit £60)
