The Land as Abstract

19th - 23rd August, 2019
Tutor: Eleanor White
Course Fee: £370

Fully Booked!

This course will start by exploring paint and mark making for its own sake. Time will be given for play and experimentation, therefore opening up the possibilities of building exciting surface textures with no motif or concrete image in mind.

From this beginning students will then go out into the natural landscape and gather images using the same methods explored in the studio. This exercise will help you to make connections between self-expression and the clarity of observation.

The challenge of this exercise will influence the actions adopted back in the studio. Here you will explore and develop works. These works will have their origins based in the connection between what we see, feel and experience about the landscape. The result will be images that have their roots firmly based in observation but with an abstracted outcome.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
