Shadows and Reflections - mixed media drawing and printmaking

26th - 30th August, 2019
Tutor: Kittie Jones
Course Fee: £370

Following on from Kittie’s popular week in 2018 that focussed on Water, she is extending the theme for our summer 2019 programme to Shadows and Reflections.

Still considering the way water reflects and distorts imagery, the theme will be extended to the shadows cast along the landscape by clouds and weather. This course will be concerned with capturing the changing elements in a variety of ways, the focus will be on finding the poetry in the everyday.

Students will be encouraged to slow down and observe the elements as they work outside on quick and more sustained work using a range of mixed media processes.

Time will be spent drawing at outdoor locations and some time will be spent drawing from the inside looking out. The week will culminate in the development of ideas in print and mixed media drawings.

Artists whose work will be considered over the course of the week will include Sylvia Wishart, Winifred Nicholson, Mary Newcombe and Duncan Shanks.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
