15th - 19th July, 2019
Tutor: Kittie Jones
Course Fee: £370

Fully Booked!

A varied week encouraging students to look at different ways of translating sketches taken from the varied landscape around Ullapool, into multi-layered prints. Focus will be given to ways of sketching that allow for a variety of information to be gathered – composition, line, tone and mark-making will all be considered.

Time will be spent translating images into prints using relief, intaglio and monotype processes. The emphasis will be on an experimental approach to print as the week goes on and creating a series of work around a common theme.

Students will go away with a better understanding of the possibilities for print to be richly complex and incorporate a range of graphic, painterly and abstract qualities. The work of John Piper, Barbara Rae, Wilhelmina Barns Graham and Mary Fedden will be looked at.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
