Tutor: Kittie Jones
Course Fee: £360
Fully Booked!
It really wouldn't be summer without our longstanding visiting tutor, Kittie Jones. Not only does she teach for 2 weeks during the summer, but she is also the co-tutor on our portfolio course, she's almost a local! This year, Kittie has developed another couple of courses that will introduce and  inspire every student to the joys of printmaking.
An exciting and challenging week taking inspiration from the varied and dramatic landscape around Ullapool through the medium of print, with a focus on the one-off print process of monotype.

Students will spend time combining a graphic and painterly response to the landscape through a range of processes, whilst considering the balance between naturalism and abstraction. During the week a variety of different ways of working with print will be considered, each building knowledge of line, tone and colour.

Time will be spent making prints outdoors, with and without a press, as well as working with stencils and layering of shape and colour to create richly complex pieces. This is an experimental week, encouraging an immediate and fluid response whilst working within the constraints of the printed mark. Students will look at the work of Degas, Kate Downie, Barbara Rae and Nik Pollard.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
