Often the essential structure of a painting is hidden under layers of media for example , paint , gesso, mixed media; just like the landscape has  ways of disguising what has been before, the changing seasons, the movement of crofts, crops or evidence of past buildings, it’s all there, we just need to discern the layers of subtle structure.

This course will initially use drawing directly from the landscape to understand the structure, to discover the bare bones of the images that inspire. From this beginning the course will aim to develop and enrich the chosen images and build though the use of mixed media layers of surface and texture aiming to create paintings with structure, surface and texture that are alive with the energy of exploration.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
