Working outside on location whatever the weather is an exhilarating and important part of working from the landscape.

When you work on the spot the challenges are endless and learning to adapt to these challenges will be part of the course: Weather conditions, the atmosphere of the day, the sense of place and the constant distillation of what you see is just the beginning, all is open and the senses are awake to the sights, sounds and smells that the location offers.
All this makes for more immediate and informed painting and can bring a dynamism and energy to the work. The locations for this course are varied and many ranging from outside locations at the edge of the sea and more intimate interior/exterior spaces. The course will cover various mixed media on both a large and small scale and will aim to work outside most days whatever the weather.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
