Abstract Observations

14th - 18th August, 2017
Tutor: Eleanor White
Course Fee: £360
Fully Booked!

The course will start with the observations of marks for their own sake to see how powerful, gentle, bold or dynamic they are; to understand their character.

This initial observation will develop into placing marks on a larger surface to create a sense of balance and imbalance, movement and stillness, weight and space. Remembered shapes, forms spaces and textures will play a part in the building of final images.

The essence of the course will be based in play and imagination and taking risks in order to search for a balance between control and ‘happy’ accident. Walks outside in the landscape will help students to connect visually with the abstract nature of the land and sea which surround Ullapool.  A course suitable for students who want to work in an abstract manner.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
