Multi-layered Landscapes – drawing and painting

18th - 22nd July, 2016
Tutor: Kittie Jones
Course Fee: £350
Fully Booked!
Taking inspiration from a diverse range of artists, including Van Gogh and Joan Eardley, students will be encouraged to explore the diversity of landscape around Bridge House Art in a variety of ways. By considering the microcosmic world of flora and fauna, as a compliment to the bigger picture, the aim is to produce work informed by the multiple layers of landscape.

The week will begin by exploring drawing methods which allow for close-up looking using a variety of techniques. Time will then be spent gathering broader aspects of the landscape, working with colour, collage and simple print techniques.

Back in the studio, time will be spent considering the diptych format in oil paint. Students will be shown how to mix paint and work expressively with colour whilst exploring the compositional challenges of the diptych format. An exciting week providing the opportunity to explore the tension between the micro and macro elements of landscape.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
