Concealed and Revealed Surfaces – experimental printmaking

25th - 29th July, 2016
Tutor: Kittie Jones
Course Fee: £350
Fully Booked!
A week of exploring and pushing the boundaries of printmaking. Taking inspiration from locations around Bridge House Art, students will be shown how to gather information through sketching on location as well as being introduced to the possibilities of working with printing plates 'en plein air'.

Back in the studio, time will be spent considering how to recreate line, tone, mark, texture and colour through the medium of print. The week will culminate in each student creating a series of multi-layered, multi-process prints, complex and rich in colour, tone and texture.

A variety of print techniques will be covered including intaglio and relief processes to create line, collagraph for texture and tone, and chine colle and monotype for introducing layers of colour. Artists such as Barbara Rae, Emma Stibbon, Robert Tavener and Norman Ackroyd will be looked at for inspiration.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
