or perhaps we should say the return of Alchemy! This course proved so popular last year with a waiting list that was never empty, we have decided to run it again with a few new and improved ideas thrown into the mix…read on….

Alchemy is the process of transforming the ordinary into the extra-ordinary, perhaps normal everyday matter into something brilliant. Through the use of diverse materials and imagination the course will aim to utilize, not just traditional artist’s materials, but also household gloss and matt paints, varnish, glue, metal, wood, found objects.

Students will be given the opportunity to work with observational and abstracted images gathered from the landscape and nature in close up, using a vigorous and demanding process of deconstructing found and supplied materials.

These materials having already gone through a transformation, will again be transformed as they begin to take the shape of the design and compositions chosen.

If you would like to push your use of mixed media further and to explore surface texture, size and scale and a moving towards the abstract, then this course is for you.

All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
