The west coast around Ullapool is rich with horizons that differ and change with the complexity of light. Looking at both the skyline of the village, with its higgledy piggledy rooflines and narrow lanes leading to the harbour and, in stark contrast, the rugged and dramatic outline of the towering hills to the thin line of the distant Summer Isles, all vie for the artists’ attention.

The conflict and companionship of these varying aspects, elusive and seemingly simple as they appear and disappear on the horizon, will be the challenge of the week. Students will gather initial drawings from these varied locations and develop a body of work using mixed media, painting and printmaking on both a large and small scale.

All courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
