This part of Andalucía is simply beautiful with mountainous, pastoral and wooded scenery interspersed with white villages chiselled in to the hillside and exquisite little farmhouses ready made for the artists’ paintbrush. During the week we shall visit different sites from which to paint country, town and village scenes under the expert guidance of Eleanor.

You stay at Almuña, the home of Hugh and Jane Arbuthnott, on a 500 acre farm with a wondrous vista stretching deep in to North Africa. The Arbuthnott family look after you and not only do they like you to eat exceptionally well, but experience food that is home cooked, using fresh and totally organic ingredients from the Almuña kitchen garden together with some delicious Spanish wines selected by Hugh. “They have the art of producing delicious food, which leaves you satisfied but not full!”

Almuña sleeps 14 in seven comfortable bedrooms with lovely views and all with en suite bathrooms. The house is surrounded by an acre of garden, with lawns, olive and almond groves where there are quiet places to marvel at the glory of the surrounding country. A magical place to learn and improve your art.

Eleanor White is the founder of Bridge House Art in Ullapool, Scotland, established in 1995. She began her teaching practice at the Edinburgh Academy and is a visiting tutor at The Leith School of Art. Community art is a major part of her practice and she exhibits in the UK.

Eleanor teaches by demonstration and by slide talks suggesting themes for the day and exploring all aspects of mixed media. The slide talks are short and informal, introducing students to new artists and methods that will help their working practice. The Dramatic landscape around Almuña will act as inspiration and students will be encouraged to work at their own pace with their choice of materials. Encouragement will also be given to students who would like the opportunity to explore and experiment with new media in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere.

Beginners as well as experienced artists are all welcome. At the centre of the teaching is a love of art and nature and students will find Almuña the perfexct place to meet with like-minded people and take joy in exploring the stunning landscape through drawing and painting.

You are welcome to contact Eleanor about the course or visit www.bridgehouseart.co.uk to see past students work.

The teaching day is normally from 9.30am-1.30pm.
Afternoons can be used to complete the morning’s work with some time off to relax before an evening slide talk. Slide talks will set the scene for the next day’s work and painters and non-painters alike can enjoy the talks over a glass of wine before dinner. The painting locations will vary from the area around Almuña and further a field with a picnic lunch. You should expect warm clear weather but should it be inclement we can develop work from initial sketches in the comfort of the conservatory.
