Sketchbooks into Print

14th – 18th July 2014
Tutor: Kittie Jones

Fully Booked

A lively week beginning with developing sketchbooks around Ullapool's varied townscape – old fisherman's houses, the bustling harbour area, the stunning coastline and the wooded river will all be used as a starting point for gathering information. A range of drawing techniques suited to sketchbooks and outdoor working will be explored. These will include gestural drawing used as a way of capturing an immediate response to a busy scene and more sustained sketches exploring composition and mark making with a view to developing prints.

Back in the studio students will be encouraged to explore a range of printmaking methods as a way of developing ideas. Final works will be richly complex prints using the techniques of monotype and collagraph to consider variety of mark and surface. Artists to take inspiration from include Mary Fedden, Victoria Crowe, Barbara Rae, Greg Poole and Angela Harding.

All courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential.
